Saturday Morning sledding outings

Each winter, Rochester Tag turns into… Rochester Sledding!

For 5 (or more) weather-permitting Saturday mornings, we invite you to feel our local hills.

 When? Where?

Saturdays from 10:30–11:30am at a park in (or near) beautiful Rochester, MN.

Which parks? Keep reading.

Which Saturdays?

Saturdays when the weather is good!

(Typically that means snow on the hill, and not too cold or stormy.)

If you click “stay in the loop” below, you’ll get an email the day before, saying whether we’ll be meeting — and if so, where.

What ages?

We regularly have kids from 6 to 16, but don’t draw a hard line anywhere.

Can parents join in?

PLEASE! Some of our most active players are parents who’ve come with kids. (Most intense workout of our weeks!)

What can I expect?

At 10:30am (sharp!), we start sledding.

If you want to just sled, do! But we also have challenges, play games… everything is better when you’re sledding.

Then we finish at 11:30!

Do I need to bring my own sled?

Yes.

But Which park this week?

We’re rotating through the best ones Rochester has to offer!

Hill #1: Judd Park

On the southwest side of town, Judd Park is Rochester’s classic sledding hill.

Place #2: Schmidt Park

Not enough people know about Schmidt! It’s on the north side of town. It has a great long, gentle slope… and one intensive short one!

Hill #3: Game Haven Reservoir sledding hill

A bit south of town, this is the area’s extreme hill. (Note: watch the map closely; you don’t want directions to the regular Game Haven site, but Game Haven Reservoir. It’s right south of 45th Street SE.)

Hill #4: Kellogg Middle School

On the northeast side of town, the school grounds have a nice short hill.

Hill #5: Judd Park (again)

An oldie, but a goodie!

How much does it cost?

Free free free free FREE free.
It does not cost money.
This is what “free” means.

See your pent-up kid enjoying the heck out of life

Who’s even organizing this? a cult? Some multi-level marketing scheme?

Both, actually! Nope! Just some random parents who want to give our kids a chance for intense play.

Why “intense play”?

When we were kids, we had wonderful experiences playing outside. Getting dirty. Scraping a knee on occasion! Somehow, that seems important for kids to grow up well. We’re a little angsty that rough-and-tumble play seems to be discouraged these days.

Who started this?

This was started (and is still mostly run) by Brandon Hendrickson, a local science teacher and homeschooling dad.

Eh, I’m on the fence.

Give it a try! Maybe it won’t be for you. Maybe you’ll win the ten-thousand-dollar prize have a fun time!

How can I help?

We can always use some other parents who can volunteer on the occasional Saturdays that Brandon’s out of town! Let us know on the “stay in the loop” form below.
